When creating the Wings logo, I felt that it didn’t look totally right and went to recreate it in Illustrator. However, there is a difference from the original one in 1985 versus the modern ones. This specific logo has bothered me and I have since gone back to the original one and spent many hours recreating it in Illustrator for the best clean look for using both as a stencil and screen printing.
The original one in ‘85 was a more hand drawn style for the text and a bit more curvy in the ‘Wings’, while the newer one is more crisp and pointy and the letters are typed out.
This was my latest attempt at the time for painting White on the leather. Anything darker is much easier as it will be darker than the Tan leather, but, when it comes to White on Tan it will need a lot more coats. There are many videos of people painting their shoes and using the standard Angelus paint which is great if you never plan on wearing the shoes. When it comes to wearing, it will crack almost immediately.
To avoid this, you’ll first have to take a cotton ball dipped in acetone to gently rub on the leather. This will allow for the fibers to stand up like a blade of grass. When the acetone has dried, you’ll then mix water and the White paint which will be 70% water, 30% paint. Numerous coats will be needed and once there is a pale even shade on, about 4 passes, you’ll add a bit more paint. This process will be continued till an even White is on the leather. If it feels it is getting too thick on the leather, you can lightly sand it off which I had to do a few times.
After about a few hours it will all be completed.
This was my first attempt at making a tongue on the sewing machine from scratch. In comparison to the most recent one, this one is horrendous.
What makes this one inferior to the recent pair is that it isn’t as thick as I need making it less comfortable, the shape is more of a square instead of a “Y”, and the lace hole is lower than what is needed.
While not perfect, it was definitely a good start with nothing but up from there on out.
There was much more improvement on the shaping of the shoe in this lasting process. More of a rounded toe made for a nice clean look, but I was still met with a heel that didn’t have as much curve to it as I would like.
